Ishant Sharma released from Indian vs Sri Lanka Test squad
Ishant Sharma , the Indian fast bowler , who was announced in the 15 man Test squad against Sri Lanka, failed to make it to the playing XI in the opening Test at the Eden Gardens and thus has been released to play for his Ranji team (Delhi) . Ishant will take part in Delhi’s upcoming Ranji fixture starting on 16 Nov. against Maharashtra in Palam, expected to be a high-voltage clash.
He took over the captaincy reigns from opener Gautam Gambhir ahead of the season before picking a fifer in the first game against Assam. The 29-year-old has taken 15 wickets in three games so far.
During his absence, Delhi drew their previous match against Karnataka. The Rishab Pant-led team collected just one point after conceding the first-innings lead.Of late, Ishant has struggled in international cricket, having picked just 18 wickets in the last 12 Tests at an average above 40. Ishant, who couldn’t find a place in the playing XI, will rejoin the national side for the second Test in Nagpur which will start on November 24.
